Digital Murals: Public Art for the 21st Century

Visual artist Augusto Bordelois brings his extensive arts experience and multimedia arts skills to guide students in creating a visually stunning digital public art. This project-based, cost-efficient digital mural residency allows students to create professional quality artwork using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop at a fraction of the supply and material fees that are associated with traditional murals.

Students will immerse themselves in the same design thinking process that a professional public artist will go to plan, submit, present and create a piece of public art following a “Call for Proposals”. Students will work in teams and engage in critical thinking and reasoning skills to create digital artwork within the limitations indicated in the CFP such as: site, theme, audience, development and production budgets, etc. Students will present their work to a panel of artists and peers and will use the suggestions to finalize their design. Based on the production budget one or more of the pieces will be professionally produced and installed at the school.
