Through song and storytelling, in English and Spanish, students will learn how music from the African diaspora has been passed down for generations to maintain culture. These rhythms show the connections between traditions in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean & North America. As the performance concludes students have a deeper understanding of the music and cultures that unite people of African descent around the world.
Prior to the performance classes receive an audiobook. Narrated by Kombilesa Asé , the short recording provides instructions on some of the music to be explored in the upcoming performance. Students are able to listen to and practice rhythms that have specific cultural significance.
