Stories, Songs and Syllables: Building Literacy through Music Making New

During this 35-45 minute workshop, students will sing a variety of songs led by the arts
specialist. Students will practice keeping a steady beat on the macro- and micro-beat. Students
will practice singing in tune with healthy vocal production. Students will use their imagination
to describe being on the beach. Students will practice singing in two parts. Students will
practice call/response singing with small and large movement. Students will use adjectives to
describe their favorite vegetable. Students will identify letters, letter sounds and blends and
practice singing them to a song. Students will identify rhyming words and sing them. Students
will listen and observe a storybook being read/sung to them and identify items in the pictures
of the book.
