The Geometry and Art of Tessellations Meet the Smartboard and Computer

Participants view an introductory PowerPoint on tessellations. Using their fingertips on a Smartboard, or the computer cursor in the Paint Program in Microsoft or Adobe Photoshop, instructor and students perform the operations of transformation, rotation and reflection used to create a regular or semi-regular geometric tessellation. Using their hands-on materials and applying their initial design experience they create an artistic tessellation in the style of MC Escher by transforming polygons into recognizable images. This program utilizes the Visual-Spatial, Bodily-Kinesthetic, Linguistic and Logical-Mathematical Intelligences in learning.
