Fashion teaches the fundamentals of sewing and creative embellishment to take existing garments and materials and turn them into new artistic creations. Students will learn the basics of hand sewing and embroidery techniques, while learning to use sewing tools and exploring various types of fabrics and materials for product development. Students will be introduced to sewing machine operation and fundamentals, learning basic construction techniques to create one-of-a-kind designs. Further embellishment techniques will introduce students to basic screen printing elements for fabric and design enhancement, all while applying principles of sustainability and reuse. Hands-on, project-based skill-building will teach students sewing curriculum, while self-determined projects will allow students to apply mastery of their applied skills. A culminating event will showcase the student’s learning by featuring their handmade products and having them teach a sewing class to a family member at the celebration.
