Explore the life, ceramic art, and poetry of Dave Drake, a 19th century enslaved artist. Students learn about Drake’s experience working in a pottery factory, turning stoneware vessels into clay pots, and inscribing them with poetry. After learning about the life, times pottery and poetry, students create a vessel from clay, write a couplet of poetry about their lives and inscribe their poetry into the moist clay of their pottery. (This program can be completed in two 50 minute sessions or an extended 90 minute session.  Also available as a Professional Development Workshop.) This offering is one of the Diversity Engagement programs available.
