Operation: Vegetables! Cartooning Veggie Superheroes
This is potentially a 3-part workshop series:
Students, in one class session, will: identify their favorite healthy vegetables and create cartoon superheroes, drawing and naming them, identifying the facts of how the fresh vegetables affects their health, and give their character those as powers to fight illness.
Students will learn how to try new foods, if allowed to taste vegetables in class.
One Added Session: Students will create a page of a comic book with their characters saving someone's health with their powers.
5 Sessions: Students will help create Action Cards for the deck of the Giant Action Game for their school to use, with older students helping early readers play.
10-15 Session Residency: Students will help build and plant a raised bed vegetable garden with their characters painted on the sides, along with a painted rain barrel to support the garden. Schools will need clearance for installation of both garden and rain barrel into the roof rain gutter system, to support healthy eating and water conservation through science, and SEL: How to care for growing plants through responsible watering and gentle but consistent care. Volunteers will be needed for Summer months.
