Flamenco: Ida Y Vuelt (Round-Trip)
In this program, participants learn how traditions are carried from place to place via migrations and transnational exchanges through the family of flamenco rhythms called “cantes de ida y vuelta” (round-trip songs). By tracing the journey of these songs through the dance movements that go with them, participants understand how culture transgresses boundaries and how they carry their own stories and histories inside themselves. Students decorate a paper fan with images important to their life, and with that artifact they create their own choreographies that connect flamenco music with their own creative movement.
