Collagraph: Relief printing with improvised forms
In this workshop we will explore how to make prints in relief using inventively any shape that can be glued on a board, inked and pressed on paper. From different stashes of objects and cardboard forms, the students will choose and fashion some to glue on a plate. The tactile assembling of forms to create a printing matrix stimulates at all grade levels the open-ended reflection over what makes a relief print, a patter, a texture; objects from daily use and creative scavenging become images and narratives when composed, inked, and printed. Reflection skills mix with craftmanship to produce always engaging and oftentimes genius compositions.
