Dance Evert
Mr. Tom Evert takes great pride in his role as a “Teaching Artist” and in creating a unique instruction approach which integrates the art of dance and the core curriculum. Mr. Evert is the artistic director of DANCEVERT, which he founded with his wife Susana Weingarten in 1986. This engaging investigation of geometry and dance with students has inspired the creation of works on the DANCEVERT Company of dancers offering the community “A magical feeling of the geometric wonder in our world and the joy of dancers moving through space”.
A native of Cleveland, Tom received Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees from Ohio University in both Painting and Dance. Upon graduation Tom moved to New York City to apprentice with The Murray Louis and Alwin Nikolais Dance Companies and toured as a dancer and teacher with the Phyllis Lamhut Dance Company. He established himself as a world- class dancer with the Paul Taylor Dance Company in New York City (1977-85).
He has created and performed a large body of meaningful and entertaining choreographic works for which he has received 7 Fellowships for choreography. Mr. Evert has remained dedicated to the educational process for over three decades and has taught in a vast range of settings such as professional modern and ballet companies, universities, private studios, K-12 schools, for populations with special needs.
